Mini Bio of Michelle's life.
Michelle LaVaughn Robinson was born January 17, 1964 in Chicago, Illinois. She grew up with an older brother, Craig, a stay-at-home mom, Marian, and a dad who worked as a city pump operator, Fraser. Raised in a middle-class home on the South Side of Chicago, she went on to be a lawyer and studied at Princeton University; she soon become an associate at a law firm. That's when she met Obama; he was a summer intern and she was assigned to advise him. They dated for 4 years before he proposed at a restaurant, and they later were married on October 3, 1992. She has worked in the offices of Chicago's mayor and its planning agency. Barack and her had their first child, a daughter named Malia on July 4, 1998, and their second child, Natasha otherwise known as Sasha was born June 6, 2001. She soon caught the attention of a national audience at her husband's side after he delivered an amazing speech at the Democratic National Convention in 2004 and then was elected that year to the U.S. Senate. In 2007 she went back to her own professional work, and to attend to family and campaign issues during Obama's run for president. She took her turn as a speaker on the opening night of the 2008 Democratic convention, and her husband was elected president on November 4, 2008. She became First Lady with his inauguration on January 20, 2009, and received a second four-year "term" as First Lady when Barack Obama was re-elected on November 6, 2012. She has promoted young fitness and good health over the nation and has worked hard to lower the U.S. obesity rate. She has done a remarkable job as First Lady, yet she always makes time to spend with her daughters. In many interviews Michelle has stated that her family; most importantly her daughters come first before politics.
